Vertical Hollow Shaft (VHS) induction motors from Kirloskar Electric are well known globally, since five decades. The demand for underground source of water (for irrigation, domestic and drinking purpose) is ever increasing. This demand is being met by the use of deep well vertical turbine pumps which are driven by vertical hollow shaft motors.
VHS motors are specially designed to drive vertical turbine pumps and the motors are well suited for the application due to the ease of installation and maintenance, permanent shaft alignment, well protected construction, high thrust capability and compact & rugged design. resistance in the rotor circuit.

The rotation in the WNR type (non-reversible) motor is only in one direction. The standard direction of rotation is anti-clockwise looking from the top of the motor. This is achieved by means of a non-reversible ratchet (NRR) which prevents the reverse rotation of the motor due to the back flow of water into the well when the motor is switched off. The NRR also prevents reverse rotation due to the accidental phase reversal which would tend to unscrew the pump shaft. An added protection is incorporated in frames SVH250, SVH280 & SVH315 in the form of a “Pin arrangement” in the clutch to take care of the accidental up thrust of the pump shaft.
